Our Approach to Learning

Our Instructional Focus

At Cultivating Hearts and Minds Pre-K Center (“CHaMP”) our instructional focus centers on building oral language, literacy, math, social-emotional skills, and thinking through meaningful, play-based learning. Teaching teams intentionally creating experiences that include engaging, hands-on, multisenstory learning opportunities. CHaMP values culturally responsive education, making sure children see themselves, their families, and their communities reflected in the classroom Each day gives children opportunities to explore, ask questions, build confidence, develop relationships, and grow the skills they need for kindergarten and beyond.

Our Curriculums

Our classrooms are filled with joyful, active, and meaningful learning experiences. We use research-based curriculum programs that support the whole child, helping children grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Each day gives children opportunities to explore, ask questions, build confidence, and develop the necessary age-based skills in a developmentally appropriate way.

The Creative Curriculum

helps children learn through hands-on experiences, purposeful play, and engaging classroom activities. This curriculum supports growth in areas such as language, math, science, social studies, art, movement, and social-emotional development.

Children are encouraged to think, create, problem-solve, and make connections to the world around them.

The Heggerty

Phonemic Awareness curriculum builds strong early literacy skills through fun, quick-paced daily lessons. Children practice listening and identifying letter sounds, rhyming words, blending words, segmenting words, and playing with words.

The Heggerty Phonemic Awareness curriculum also incorporates nursery rhymes and poetry to build oral language and fluency. These activities help children understand how spoken language works, which is an important step toward becoming confident readers and writers.

FUNdations

introduces children to letters, sounds, handwriting, and early reading skills in a clear and engaging way. Through structured lessons and interactive practice, children begin to connect sounds with letters and build a strong foundation for reading readiness and spelling. Fundations helps make literacy learning feel approachable, consistent, and exciting.

Together, these curriculum programs create a balanced learning experience to build a learning foundation and support children’s curiosity confidence. CHaMP’s goal is to help every child feel capable, celebrated, and excited to learn each day.
